چکیده

We present an implementation (AMEX) of a module extraction algorithm for acyclic description logic ontologies. The implementation uses a QBF solver (sKizzo) to check whether one ontology is a conservative extension of another ontology relativised to interpretations of cardinality one. We evaluate AMEX by applying it to NCI (the National Cancer Institute Thesaurus) and by comparing the extracted AMEX-modules with locality-based modules. We also present experiments for a hybrid approach in which AMEX and locality-based module extraction are applied iteratively to NCI.

Lower and Upper Approximations for Depleting Modules of Description Logic Ontologies

It is known that no algorithm can extract the minimal depleting Σ-module from ontologies in expressive description logics (DLs). Thus research has focused on algorithms that approximate minimal depleting modules ‘from above’ by computing a depleting module that is not necessarily minimal. The first contribution of this paper is an implementation (AMEX) of such a depleting module extraction algo...

On Querying OBO Ontologies Using a DAG Pattern Query Language

The Open Biomedical Ontologies (OBO) is a consortium that serves as a repository of ontologies that are structured like directed acyclic graphs. In this paper we present a language DQL for querying a database of directed acyclic graphs. The query language has a comprehension style syntax and contains a pattern specification sub-language DPL. DPL can be viewed as an extension of tree-pattern que...

HyS: Fast Atomic Decomposition and Module Extraction of OWL-EL ontologies

In this paper, we present HyS, an application for fast atomic decomposition and module extraction of OWL-EL ontologies. HyS computes a hypergraph representation of the modular structure of an ontology. This hypergraph representation contains the atomic decomposition of the input ontology, and it allows to extract modules for a given signature. We provide an experimental evaluation of HyS with a...

Minimal Module Extraction from DL-Lite Ontologies Using QBF Solvers

We present a formal framework for (minimal) module extraction based on an abstract notion of inseparability w.r.t. a signature between ontologies. Two instances of this framework are discussed in detail for DL-Lite ontologies: concept inseparability, when ontologies imply the same complex concept inclusions over the signature, and query inseparability, when they give the same answers to existen...

Logic-based ontology comparison and module extraction, with an application to DL-Lite

We develop a formal framework for comparing different versions of ontologies, and apply it to ontologies formulated in terms of DL-Lite, a family of ‘lightweight’ description logics designed for data-intensive applications. The main feature of our approach is that we take into account the vocabulary (= signature) with respect to which one wants to compare ontologies. Five variants of difference...
